Madonna’s 2012 world tour kicks off May 29

Taking center stage at the halftime show at Super Bowl XLVI was only the just start of a whirlwind year for Madonna, as dates for her 2012 World Tour were announced Tuesday. The globe-trotting tour includes over 50 dates, beginning in Tel Aviv on May 29th before moving on to 26 European shows that include stops in Paris, London and Berlin. The North American stretch of the tour begins August 28th at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, with other marquee dates that in Boston, New York and Los Angeles. The tour will also feature Canadian stops in Quebec City, Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver. Madonna will then head to Latin America and wrap up her tour in early 2013 with a rare visit to Australia.

Madonna’s halftime show featured a staggering 114 million viewers, making it the most-watched television feature in U.S. history. It’s the latest big milestone in the pop diva’s shining career, whose tours are amongst the highest-grossing ever for a solo artist. Coachella lineup for 2012 announced!

Famed music festival Coachella has announced its lineup this year, and it’s a doozy. The short version: if you downloaded an mp3 from an artist this year, they’re probably playing. The long version: Radiohead, Dr Dre and Snoop Dogg, the Black Keys, Afrojack, Swedish House Mafia, M83, Bon Iver, David Guetta, Feist, At The Drive-In, Girl Talk, Justice, La Roux, Florence and the Machine, Calvin Harris, Dragonette, the Shins, and that’s not even the half of it.

Black Sabbath reunited, announce tour dates

Well, don’t say we didn’t tell you – like we reported earlier, Black Sabbath is gearing up for a world tour featuring its original members. Singer Ozzy Osbourne, guitarist Tony Iommi, bassist Geezer Butler and drummer Bill Ward will be taking up their instruments and hitting the road for a world tour.

So far, there haven’t been any dates announced in Asia or North America – expect that to change soon, as Black Sabbath fans around the world will be chomping at the bit to get to these shows. There’s also a 2012 album scheduled, with Rick Rubin slated to produce.

Radiohead announce 2012 North America tour dates

UK experimental stadium-rockers Radiohead have announced a new live concert tour, due to begin in February 2012, and fans are all a-twitter on Twitter (and Facebook, and Reddit, and pretty much everywhere on the Internet).

Announced via an email to people who bought a pay-what-you-want copy of their recent album In Rainbows (which includes most of us here at the office) via their “WASTE UK” site, the tour so far covers Florida, Georgia, Texas, Missouri, Colorado, and Arizona, with more dates on the East and West coasts expected to be announced soon.

CSS Adds Vancouver Concert Date to 2011 Tour

Brazilian dance-rockers CSS, famous for hits like “Music Is My Hot Hot Sex” and “Let’s Make Love And Listen To Death From Above,” have added a Vancouver stop to their 2011 world tour. The nu-rave band, whose infectious rhythms and charismatic singer Lovefoxx have brought them fans across the world, will be playing Saturday, October 1 at the Vogue Theatre in downtown Vancouver with fellow dance-rockers (and Le Tigre side-project) MEN. CSS will be playing material from their new album, La Liberacion, as well as fan-favorite songs from their back catalogue.

Adele Reschedules Concert Dates

English nu-soul sensation Adele (born Adele Laurie Blue Adkins) has announced make-up shows for dates she cancelled earlier due to a bout of laryngitis. The singer, whose Amy Winehouse-esque brand of retro soul has captivated fans worldwide, was forced to put her North American tour on hold when her doctors told her that a few days of rest just wouldn’t cut it.

Summer Live: Massive Free Concert in Vancouver

To celebrate the 125th anniversary of its founding, the City of Vancouver is hosting a free, weekend-long party and music festival featuring a boatload of Vancouver musicians. Some of them have been famous for decades, others are underground artists with a cult following, but all of them are well worth checking out.

Here’s a few we’re particularly excited for.

Mother Mother is a power-pop group from Vancouver, but frontman Ryan Guldemond’s distinctive voice, as well as the slightly morbid nature of their songs, sets them apart from other indie bands. Excellent musicianship, intricate vocal harmonies, and catchy songs make them a perennial favorite.

Check out their track “Arms Tonite” for an idea of what they’re about. Like many bands, their live show is better, but this track is pretty great.

Fond of Tigers won a Juno Award in 2010, but they’ve also won the hearts and minds of listeners unafraid of getting a little weird. Consisting of founding member Stephen Lyon and a host of extremely talented supporting musicians (two drummers! TWO!), the group plays music which oscillates wildly between jazz and indie rock, between dreamy guitar noodling and furious cacophonies. While their songs are tricky to sing along with, Fond of Tigers are well worth seeing for the immense skills of their members.

The New Pornographers are accessible, fun, and have released a string of great albums showcasing songs packed full of hooks which wouldn’t be out of place in a Beach Boys or Beatles song. The band is sort of an indie-rock supergroup (the band includes A.C. Newman, Neko Case, and Dan Bejar, the founding member of Destroyer), but are world-famous on their own.

Jimmy Eat World Comes to Vancouver May 21

Back in 2001, “The Middle” was my jam. Jimmy Eat World had just come out with their breakthrough album Bleed American, and the song was everywhere. It was great. The lyrics were sort of sad in an uplifting way, the hook stayed catchy no matter how many times it was played on the radio, and the guitar part was enough that I, along with millions of other high school kids, could pick out the simple chords on our cheap knockoff Stratocasters.

Then Jimmy Eat World kept releasing good albums, like 2004’s Futures and 2007’s Chase This Light (their highest charting work to date), and managed to avoid being stuck with the label of “that band that does that ‘Middle’ song.” Their latest album, Invented, was released in September 2010, and the band went on tour in support of it, playing shows worldwide as well as festival dates at Coachella, Soundwave, and an upcoming headlining gig at Reading and Leeds.

The band plays the Commodore Ballroom on May 21, and there are a few tickets to the Jimmy Eat World Vancouver concert still available at ShowTimeTickets.com. JYJ World Tour Comes to North America

Pop group JYJ, made up of Jaejoong, Yoochun, and Junsu, will be touring North America next month in support of their second album, Their Rooms; Our Story.

The JYJ World Tour, which kicked off its second leg in Thailand on April 2nd, will make its way to Vancouver on May 20th. Three U.S. dates are scheduled for Newark, Los Angeles, and San Jose.

JYJ gained popularity with their debut album, The Beginning, in 2010. Their much-loved follow up album will take them to a total of ten cities around the globe, and to North America for the first time.

Slayer & Rob Zombie Bring Hell on Earth

Slayer is touring with Rob Zombie this summer for a heavy metal outing that will take them to eleven cities in the U.S. and Canada.

The “Hell on Earth” tour kicks off in Reading, Pennsylvania on July 20th, and wraps up in Seattle, Washington on August 6th. The groups will be joined on tour by special guests, Exodus.

Kerry King of Slayer was quoted as saying, “We haven’t toured with Zombie since Ozzfest 1999, so you can expect no less than ‘hell on earth’… Total sonic annihilation and a visual bludgeoning. Bring your own body bag.” Look out folks, with their powers combined, these metal heads are looking to literally rock your faces off!
