Bell Biv Devoe is an American R & B band that emerged from the breakup of New Edition (a 1978 R & B group from Boston, pioneers of the boy band movement), retaining three of its members. Although their popularity peaked in '91 with the debut album, "Poison" on MCA Records, the band is still performing.
Bell Biv Devoe is associated with the New Jack Swing sound of the early 90s (rhythms and samples of hip hop, dance pop, R & B). Reaching #1, Poison sold over three million copies. Hootie Mack was released in '93, plus the more hardcore /R & B "BBD" in '01. That was the year of their last album. They participate in New Edition reunions, and won a Soul Train Music Award in '91 for Best Album of the Year.
