Born Lonnie Rashid Lynn, Jr., Common is a hip-hop singer and actor from Chicago, Illinois. He emerged as an underground artist in 1992 following the release of his debut album, Can I Borrow a Dollar? He then began performing with a collection of artists known as the Soulquarians. He continued to release albums containing hits such as "Love of My Live (An Ode to Hip-hop)" and "Southside." Common has been nominated for and received many awards, including the Grammy Award, the BET Award and the MTV Video Music Award. In edition to his music career, Common has performed in several hit movies, including Brown Sugar, Terminator Salvation and Date Night.
