Greg "Shock G" Jacobs, from Oakland, California, formed Digital Underground, the alternative rap group in 1987, in Berkeley. He remained the only constant member. Their major influence was the punk rock bands of the '70s. Added sampling brought in influences of Rockadelic, a sub-genre of west coast rap.
In '89, he released a single and video, "Doowutchyalike." In '90, "The Humpty Dance" gained fame. He appeared in the '91 film, "Nothing But Trouble." After twenty years of touring, they disbanded in '08, but also confirmed the release of a new album, "â?¦Cuz A d.u. Party Don't Stop."
