Born in 1948, Jean-Michel Jarre is a French composer, performer and producer, a pioneer in electronic, synthpop, ambient (atmospheric timbral effects) and New Age music. Originally trained as a pianist, his first serious work was the '76 album, "Oxygene." Even though it was home-recorded, the album sold twelve million copies.
He released "Equinox" in '78 and performed at the Place de la Concorde for more than one million people. He has sold eighty million copies in all, and is the first western musician invited to the Peoples' Republic of China. Jarre holds the world record for the largest audience at an outdoor event.
