American singer/songwriter Jonathan Coulton, born in 1970, is a cult figure for songs that depict geek culture. He has used the internet almost exclusively to draw listeners, and has an abundant income without owning a label. Among his most popular songs are "Code Monkey," "RE: Your Brains" and "Still Alive."
A former computer programmer, the '93 Yale grad and contributor to Popular Science is famous for his off-beat lyrics with overtones of science fiction. Coulton has been featured on NPR's "All Things Considered," composed the music for the show, "Mystery Diagnosis" and released a DVD/CD of his live '08 show in San Francisco.
