Greg Lake played with a number of bands over the years before beginning his solo career. In addition to being a founding member of King Crimson, he also played with groups including Emerson, Lake & Palmer, Asia, The Who and Ringo Starr's All-Starr Band.
An important aspect of Greg Lake's musicianship is the way he revolutioned the role and the sound of bass guitar, using roundwound strings on a black Fender Jazz Bass obtaining a piano-like timbre. He has a guitar-like approach in bass playing that was hugely influential in other bands. Today, Greg Lake is worldwide reputated as one of the greatest players of all time along with Paul McCartney, Chris Squire, Jack Bruce and very few others. He is also a very gifted guitar player, whose flat-picking technique on a Gibson SJ-200 astonished the audience in his solo part of the shows.
