The Pat Metheny Group is a jazz fusion band founded in 1977. Core members of the group are Pat Metheny (guitarist), Lyle Mays (composer, keyboard, pianist) and Steve Rodby (bassist, producer) who joined in 1980. Many additional members have come and gone over the years. The latest release, 2005's The Way Up, is a large concept record which consists of one 68 minute-long piece. On February 8th, 2006, The Way Up won the Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Jazz Album, making it his seventh consecutive Grammy for consecutive albums.
