Kings and Devils set for 2012 Stanley Cup Final

It’ll mark the lowest seed to ever win the Stanley Cup, but the Los Angeles Kings (8th in the West) and the New Jersey Devils (6th in the East) are set to go at it for the greatest trophy in sport. It’s a contest between two similar teams: defensively-minded, hard on the forecheck and marquee names in goal. Both teams also win by committee, rolling and getting contributions from all four lines. Perhaps those similarities are leading many to think that this year’s Final to be a toss-up between the Kings and Devils, if this graphic from has anything to say: makes their picks for the 2012 SCF writers make their picks; might as well flip a coin!


2012 NHL Playoff Picks

We’re just one more sleep away from the 2012 Stanley Cup Playoffs and the start of another two months of hockey drama. Last year’s playoffs were laden with rivalries, upsets, near-comebacks and Game 7s for the ages; parity in the league has only grown since then, so I would nothing less than the excitement from last year to repeat itself. Leafs Break 8 Game Loosing Streak

giguereFinally, the Toronto Maple Leafs 8 game loosing streak has come to a close! They were able to pull off a 5 to 4 win over the Nashville Predators last night with exceptional second period play.

Turnovers in the first period and early in the second put the Maple Leafs behind 4 to 1, but undisciplined play by the Predators gave the Maple Leafs a 5 on 3 player advantage which resulted in two goals by Kris Versteeg 10 seconds apart. Excited by the 1 goal deficit, the Maple Leafs rallied and with goals by Mikail Grabowski and Nikolai Kulemin, and were able to gain the lead (more…)
