RSS Information
What is RSS?
RSS stands for ‘Really Simple Syndication’ or ‘RDF Site Summary’. It is a way to store online information so that it can be viewed in a simple format that lists abbreviated content from selected sites. This allows users to receive a summarized list of updates, from requested RSS feed pages, that include links to the full version page for more information.
How does RSS work?
It simply strips regular page content to the ‘bare bones’ and delivers this information as an XML file to users who subscribe to the feed. Many websites list RSS feeds on their pages to allow for frequent visitors to receive summarized lists on new updates to the page. Look for our RSS feeds under the ‘Why ShowTime?’ box on every page.
In a sense the page visits you - by invitation - rather than you visiting the page.
How do I read RSS?
An RSS Reader is required to translate the information sent to you from your selected RSS feeds. There are a number of RSS Readers available to download from the Internet. Personalized home pages, such as the versions offered by Google and My Yahoo!, are easy ways to view your RSS feeds without having to download an RSS Reader.
What are the benefits to using RSS feeds?
It’s a free way to keep updated on new postings from your favourite pages without having to browse the sites manually. RSS feeds also provide a way to browse lots of information quickly as it is laid out in simple, clear terms. All of this means you can easily filter received information to get the exact updates you want from the sites you love.
For example, with ShowTime Ticket Services you can sign up for RSS feeds that automatically inform you of upcoming concerts for your favourite bands or reminders of events coming to your city. It’s that simple!
