Football, known outside of North America as "American Football", is a popular team sport which combines intense action, strategic tactics, impressive athleticism and one of the biggest followings for any sport in the world.

American football originates from the English sport of Rugby. Like rugby, football involves plenty of physical action, strategy and athleticism and teams ultimately try to advance a ball past an end zone and score more points than their opponent. Unlike rugby however, American Football is played on a larger field, with far more physical intensity and with several differing rules.

Since football's inception in the United States, it has grown to become perhaps America's most popular sport, rivaling only baseball in terms of its fan base and importance to American athletic history. The sport has also taken many forms over the years, including the professional NFL, CFL, college NCAA football and Arena Football, all of which have slightly different rules and regulations, but ultimately feature the same great sport.
