London 2012 Olympic Modern Pentathlon Tickets
Olympic Modern Pentathlon is one of the most challenging events in the Summer Olympics. Participants must run, swim, shoot targets, fence, and ride horses. Widely popular in Eastern Europe, it is also followed by a core group of enthusiasts in other countries who love the sport for the immense versatility it demands of its athletes, as well as for the variety it provides spectators.
The modern pentathlon is patterned after the classical one, an integral part of the classical Olympics (it is no wonder, then, that the founder of the modern Olympics, Pierre de Coubertin, is also the inventor of the modern pentathlon). In ancient Greece, athletes would race on foot, throw a javelin, do the long jump, throw a discus, and wrestle. While the contemporary Olympics features a number of events from the Classical pentathlon, these generally take place under the aegis of the Track and Field category and do not require athletes to become proficient in multiple areas, a fact which makes modern pentathlon fans uniquely excited about their sport.
