Biathlon is a unique event which combines both cross-country skiing and rifle shooting. It began as a training drill for Norwegian soldiers and was originally demonstrated at the Winter Games for many years before becoming an official event at the 1960 games. Though it's origins are in Norway, Germany has the highest medal count to date, with 38 in total.
