Miss Saigon is a musical created by Claude-Michel Schonberg and Alain Boublil. The show premiered in London in September of 1989. It is based upon the opera Madame Butterfly by Giacomo Puccini. Set in 1970s Saigon during the Vietnam War, the play tells the story of a Vietnamese girl who is abandoned by her lover, who is an American GI.
Miss Saigon opened on Broadway in 1991 and has subsequently played in cities across the world. The show continues to tour both in the US and internationally.
