Nicklas Lidstrom calls it quits after 20 years in the NHL

by Jon

The number 5 may not be a stat that has any reference to Nicklas Lidstrom’s exceptional 20-year career with the Red Wings, but it says a lot to many of us sporting his jersey or those watching him play from the stands, knowing he is an ongoing threat to the survival of any opposing club.
He uses his superior hockey intelligence and skill to dominate the game. An outstanding passer with an incredibly accurate shot from the point. He plays calm and is very efficient in the defensive zone. This is a player that has consistently shown he is a player to be remembered, and today Lidstrom officially announced that his retirement from the league he dominated for the better part of two decades on the Detroit blueline:

Kings and Devils set for 2012 Stanley Cup Final

By Kat

It’ll mark the lowest seed to ever win the Stanley Cup, but the Los Angeles Kings (8th in the West) and the New Jersey Devils (6th in the East) are set to go at it for the greatest trophy in sport. It’s a contest between two similar teams: defensively-minded, hard on the forecheck and marquee names in goal. Both teams also win by committee, rolling and getting contributions from all four lines. Perhaps those similarities are leading many to think that this year’s Final to be a toss-up between the Kings and Devils, if this graphic from NHL.com has anything to say:

Metallica announces new tour dates, returns to Vancouver & Edmonton

By Ryan

Metallica

Metallica announced earlier this week that they will be performing in Vancouver on August 24, 2012 at Rogers Arena. They will be playing all their hits from their 30-year career on their state of the art 360-degree stage that needs to be seen to be believed. They will also be using different visual effects and stage components through out the show.

This is the first time the band has returned to Vancouver since December of 2008. The Vancouver announcement follows earlier news that Metallica will perform in Edmonton on August 17th.

Metallica’s Lars Ulrich released this statement: “Our rabid Canadian fans will love this … over the top, out of control stage that will be the cornerstone of our touring escapades for the next years to come.”
