Today’s technology is pushing the limits of visual viewing. We turn on the TV to high definition and experience the game in more detail than the majority of the seats we pay the big bucks for. For now there are no channels that delivery true 3D viewing for live NHL games here in Canada. Over in Europe, Sky 3D delivers the full 3D experience in ‘true 3D’ for some Euro League and FA soccer games. To receive this full visual experience of ‘ true 3D’ a unique camera setup needs to be used to get the true depth effect of the objects in focus. The camera actually has two lenses positioned about 2.5cm apart, much like the distance between our eyes, to create the depth effect. This setup is expensive and will take time to incorporate it into or daily television viewing. Sky 3D has been a success in Europe, sponsoring bars and pubs with 3D TV’s allowing their patron to view the soccer game in 3D with the help from some stereoscopic glasses (the ones you’ve used at a 3D movie) providing that all so important third dimension
So what matters to you? The experience of the game and overall atmosphere of the arena or a full view experience from center ice at the comfort of your favorite bar… with the excuse to wear glasses inside.
For now the only way to see your favorite player in all three dimension is to purchase a ticket and experience the game the way it’s supposed to be viewed, the only place that encourages chest painting, green-man suits and loud chants taunting your opposition, well above what your ‘indoor voice’ allows: your sports arena.
