ShowTime Tickets was proud to be a presenting member at the 13th annual Vancouver Tourism Showcase on April 24, 2013, hosted by the BC Les Clefs d’Or organization and Tourism Vancouver. Taking place at the gorgeous Vancouver Convention Centre, the four-hour showcase displayed the best services, attractions and products that the Vancouver tourism industry had to offer. In attendance were local hotel concierges, representatives from tourism industry businesses, and ShowTime’s own Jon and Candace.

As a leading ticket broker in Canada, ShowTime Tickets was proud to promote our affiliate and concierge partnership programs to local businesses and hotel reps. We also encouraged visitors to our booth to sign up for our hotel and affiliate newsletter lists to stay in the loop for the latest offers and ticketed events coming to Vancouver.

2013-2014 Seattle Seahawks, NFL Schedule Released

Seattle Seahawks fans probably got just a bit more antsy for the new season as the National Football League released its full 2013-2014 regular season schedule late last week.

Following a breakout season by rookie QB Russell Wilson, the 2013-2014 campaign will begin with the Seahawks on the road against the Carolina Panthers on September 8th. Week 2 marks the home opener at CenturyLink Field on September 15 against Super Bowl runner-ups the San Francisco 49ers.

The rest of the Seahawks’ home schedule is as follows:

Draw is set for Canada-Italy Davis Cup quarterfinal

The stage is set for some Canadian tennis history to be made, as the match-ups for this weekend’s Davis Cup quarterfinal between Canada and Italy were announced today.

Milos Raonic and Vasek Pospisil will play the singles matches on Friday and Sun, and the duo of Daniel Nestor and Pospisil will play the doubles match on Saturday. Jesse Levine will be a late substitute for Frank Dancevic for Team Canada, as Dancevic suffered a knee injury that is forcing him out of the tournament.

The match-ups for this weekend are as follows:
Friday (Singles) – Vasek Pospisil (CAN) vs Andreas Seppi (ITA), Milos Raonic (CAN) vs Fabio Fognini (ITA)

Trash talk, personal scores between GSP and Diaz set the stage for UFC 158

Throughout his sparkling UFC career, reigning welterweight champ Georges St-Pierre has been known as the genteel champ – nearly invincible inside the Octagon with an equally squeaky-clean record outside it. GSP’s record in the sport did all the talking for him.

Not any more.

The gauntlet was clearly laid down between Georges St-Pierre and Nick Diaz in a heated and expletive-filled pre-fight conference call last week, as both fighters let fly with the trash talk. Goaded by Diaz’s comments that St-Pierre was pampered and coddled by the UFC, the usually-composed GSP went shot for shot over the phone with his opponent. While Nick Diaz probably wasn’t the most worthy fighter to get a welterweight title fight, it’s clear that St-Pierre has a personal score to settle with him after Diaz’s media no-shows derailed their last scheduled fight at UFC 137.

The fight card is already touted as being one of the best in recent memory, with other bouts featuring welterweights Carlos Condit against Johny Hendricks, as well as Jake Ellenberger taking on Nate Marquardt. However, fans will get to see something truly novel at UFC 158: an angry Georges St-Pierre setting foot into the Octagon come Saturday night at the Bell Centre.

Oprah Winfrey to spend An Evening in Ottawa and Montreal

Following a hugely successful run in Western Canada, the queen of daytime television will be making a visit to Eastern Canada this spring.

Oprah Winfrey announced yesterday that she will be bringing her arena speaking tour to Ottawa, Montreal and Hamilton this April. Fans of the talk show icon will get to spend An Evening with Oprah on the following dates:

April 11, 2013 – Montreal, Bell Centre
April 13, 2013 – Hamilton, Copps Coliseum

Canada vs Spain Davis Cup tie roster announced

Call it a blessing in disguise. Next week’s Davis Cup tie between team Canada and team Spain out at the University of British Columbia will be missing some of the biggest names in tennis, but the odds of the home side advancing over the top-ranked Spaniards just got a lot better.

Rosters for the two teams were announced today. No. 1-ranked Spain will be missing Rafael Nadal, David Ferrer and Fernando Verdasco, sending a team comprising of ~~Nicolas Almagro~~ Guillermo Garcia-Lopez, Marcel Granollers, Marc Lopez and Albert Ramos. Representing the home side will be world #15 Milos Raonic, Vancouver’s own Vasek Pospisil, doubles specialist Daniel Nestor and Frank Dancevic.

While spectators will be missing the star power that Nadal and Ferrer would have brought to the UBC court, what would likely have been a one-sided affair has suddenly gotten a lot more interesting. Oprah Winfrey has been back in the news these past few days, fresh off her revealing interview with disgraced cyclist and newly-confessed doper Lance Armstrong. The Oprah Winfrey Show ended its run nearly two years ago, but the former talk show host certainly still commands an audience.

2013 Davis Cup pits Spain against Canada at UBC’s Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre

In a few weeks’ time, some of the best tennis players in the world touch down in Vancouver for the 2013 Davis Cup. This year’s tournament matches up the world #1-ranked Spanish team against team Canada in the first round of play. While rosters likely won’t be announced until 10-day deadline prior to the start of the tournament, it’s already been confirmed that Spanish superstars Rafael Nadal and Davis Ferrer will miss the Vancouver (Nadal due to stomach ailments and Ferrer to scheduling conflicts).

The absence of Nadal and Ferrer means a better chance for Canada. Likely included on the team from the host nation will be world #13-ranked Milo Raonic in men’s singles, doubles specialist Daniel Nestor and Vancouver’s own Vasek Pospisil. It’s hoped that the intimate and raucous atmosphere from last year’s Davis Cup event against France will return to UBC, giving a boost to the home team facing a still-strong Spanish squad.

NHL lockout ends after 16-hour marathon negotiating session

Well, it took 113 days, cancelled 625 games and put a bad taste in just about everyone’s mouths, but the NHL lockout is over. The hockey world and its fans woke up on Sunday morning to the news that a tentative 10-year CBA deal had been reached. While the deal still has to be ratified by both the owners and players, it looks like the league could finally be back on the ice come Saturday, January 19th.

As of now, no schedule has been released. However, it’s expected that it will include 48-50 games, and rumors are circulating that it could comprise entirely of in-conference games. If true, that means we likely won’t see matchups between Western and Eastern conference teams until the Stanley Cup Finals.

Now that the lockout is over, talk now turns to whether an embittered fan base will return the rinks:
