BC Place welcomes Paul McCartney with Union Jack roof

By Kat

It’s been nearly 50 years since The Beatles played at Empire Stadium in Vancouver, but Sir Paul McCartney still knows how to make an entrance. With a little help from the folks at BC Place, Vancouver’s skyline has a distinctly British flavour nowadays with the Union Jack projecting from the stadium’s roof.

BC Lions face Edmonton for the first game in their new home!

CFL football has a new home in Vancouver: its old one. The fabulously revamped BC Place, traditional home of the Lions, is open for business again, and its first customers will be the Edmonton Eskimos – ready for an extra-large order of bone-crunching football, on the house.
The game, which will see the two teams face off after a 36-1 Lions victory at their last meeting, will be a chance for the Eskimos to prove themselves – and you can be sure the players are aware. The Lions, on the other hand, are eager to continue their winning streak. No matter the outcome, it’s sure to be a tense game.
Almost of equal consideration will be the experience of the brand-new stadium. Featuring more natural light, a brand-new, state-of-the-art retractable roof, vast digital screens to catch more of the action than ever before, and an incredible new sound system, the stadium is a totally new experience. The seats are even three inches wider, so don’t be to worried about hitting the concession stands.
Of course, this won’t be just another football game: the opening will be marked by a marvelous gala, featuring an incredible halftime show and internationally acclaimed recording artist Sara McLachlan to sing the national anthem.

U2 360° Tour tickets now available, breaking sales records

After having released their twelfth studio album, No Line on the Horizon, in February of this year, U2 will be embarking on a World Tour beginning on June 30, 2009 as they travel Europe for six months on the first leg of the U2 360° Tour, then continue on with the North American leg on September 12th. Tour stops across North America continued the trend of outstanding sales, with the stop at Vancouver’s BC Place reaching a staggering 57,000 tickets sold, on par with the shows in Washington and Boston. Close to half of the shows on this World Tour have already sold out, with the other locations not far behind. The tour will begin on June 30th in Barcelona, where the band will continue to travel Europe for the next two and a half months before crossing the pond and landing in Chicago to kick off the North American portion of the tour on September 12th. Like A Vancouver Virgin….

BIG Concert Announcement this morning! Madonna is coming to Vancouver! While hard to believe, it will be “her madgesty’s” first stop in our fine city and she will be joining the ranks of the Rolling Stones, U2 and Pink Floyd by playing BC Place! While I haven’t been much of a Madonna fan for the past, oh, 20 years or so…I have to admit, part of me really wants to go. I mean, I’ve never been to a pop concert and if there was one I was going to go to, she would probably be the one to see. With all the stage set-ups, costume changes, dancers and lord knows what else that goes on at a Madonna concert, I’m sure it would at the very least be entertaining! Tickets go on sale Saturday, May 24th at 10 am and range in price from $55 to $350.
