Big announcements came from UFC officials earlier this week as they began promotion for the December 11th title fight between reigning champion Georges St-Pierre and Josh Koshcheck to be held at Bell Centre in Montreal.
Mixed martial arts has a huge following in Canada, and although UFC has been welcomed in Montreal, organizers are hoping to expand to new Canadian cities, namely Toronto by mid-2011.
In a press conference held on Tuesday in promotion of UFC 124, UFC Canada president, Tom Wright spoke about regulations in Ontario.
“We hope to have it completed by the end of the year, and we’ve already had discussions about a venue in Toronto… might just be sandwiched between Montreal and Vancouver next year, so it will be great.”
Coordinators hope Toronto will join Vancouver and Montreal to host UFC events in 2011. Toronto is the rumored location for the 2011 fan expo, while Vancouver is expected to host its second UFC event in June, and Montreal is expected to host a fifth event at the end of 2011.
