Born in 1944, the American Texas country singer/songwriter, novelist and humorist characterizes himself in the persona of Will Rogers and Mark Twain. Friedman ran for governor of Texas as an independent in '06, receiving over 12% of the vote. His first bands, formed while in school, included "King Arthur and the Carrots" and "Kinky Friedman and The Texas Jewboys." Each member was named satirically.
His music is mixed with social commentary, such as in "We Reserve The Right To Refuse Service To You" and the ballad, "Western Union Wire." In 2011, the "Springtime for Kinky" tour was launched.
