Cincinnati Reds Tickets Continued

1869 - In the first professional baseball game ever played, The Cincinnati Stockings beat the Mansfield Independents, 48-14.

1990 - The main grandstand of League Park, burns to the ground. The franchise quickly constructs temporary stands and finish out the season.

1917 - In the greatest pitching battle in the history of baseball, Red's pitcher Fred Toney and Jim Vaughn of the Cubs both threw no-hitters for 9 innings. The Red's eventually win 1-0 in extra innings.

1919 - Cincinnati wins their first World Series.

1920 - The Reds win the 1919 World Series but the victory is tarnished by allegations that several White Sox players threw the game.

1934 - Reds owner Sidney Weil is forced to sell his the franchise after losing much of his fortune in the 1929 stock market crash. Powel Crosley purchases the team and immediately re-names the field Crosley Field.

1935 - The first game in MLB history is played at Crosley Field. The Reds beat the Phillies 2-1.

1938 - Johnny Vander Meer sets a record as the only pitcher in MLB history to throw back to back no hitters on June 11th and June 15th.

1939 - Reds win the pennant.

1940 - Reds win the World Series against the Tigers.

1961 - The Reds win the pennant.

1970 - Pete Rose becomes the first player to earn a six figure salary when he signs to the Reds for $105,000.

1972 - The Reds win the World Series followed by another win next year.

1985 - Marge Schott purchases the team and becomes club President.

1989 - Pete Rose is banned from MLB baseball for gambling.

1990 - Reds win the World Series.

2000 - Ken Griffey Jr. is signed to the Reds from the Mariners, joining his father Ken Griffey Sr. on the Reds roster.
