Chicago Cubs Tickets Continued
Chicago is the only city that has had a baseball team continuously since 1876. The team were originally called the "White Stockings" mainly because the top team at the time was the Cincinnati Red Stockings. Because the team was stocked with young players, sportswriters at the time often referred to them as "Colts" and "Cubs" in mockery of their age. In 1898, the team was also briefly called the "Orphans" before changing to the "Cubs" in 1900.
1876 - Chicago win their first NL game against Louisville and take the NL pennant months later.
1906 - Cubs take the NL pennant once more.
1922 - The Cubs beat the Phillies 26-23. This is the highest scoring game in ML history.
1929 - The Cubs lose 3-1 to Philadelphia in the first World Series.
1941 - The Cubs donate their recently purchased lighting materials to the US Military after the Pearl Harbour bombing.
1945 - The Cubs fall to the Tigers in the World Series.
1947 - Jackie Robinson makes his Chicago debut.
1953 - Ernie Banks scores his first career home run against St. Louis.
1969 - Ken Holtzman tosses his first of two career no-hitters against the Braves.
1971 - Ernie Banks hits his 512th and final career homer against Cincinnati.
1981 - The Cubs are sold to Tribune Company for 20.5 million.
1989 - Cubs take the NL East title.
1992 - Cubs aquire Sammy Sosa.
1999 - Sammy Sosa becomes the first player in major league history to reach 60-homer mark in back to back seasons.
2002 - Sammy Sosa leads the NL with 49 runs. He also scores his 499th career homer in the last game of the regular season.
