Baltimore Orioles Tickets Continued
The Baltimore Orioles began as the St. Louis Browns. The franchise moved to Baltimore at the end of the 1953 season and were renamed the Baltimore Orioles after the black and orange birds that habitate the area. Baseball teams called the Orioles were commonplace in the years before the American League came to town. Teams called The Orioles played in the National League during the 1890's and in the American League in 1901 and 1902.
1953 - St. Louis Browns move to Baltimore and change names to the Orioles.
1954 - Although they had a low scoring year with 54-100, the team was still very popular and sold 1,060,910 Baltimore Orioles tickets to their 67 home games.
1957 - The Orioles finished .500 for the first time.
1961 - The Orioles surpassed the 90 win mark for the first time, but still finish 14 games behind the powerhouse Yankees.
1966 - The Orioles win their first World Series. This was greatly assisted by the addition of wonderkind pitcher Frank Robinson. Baltimore Orioles tickets surge in popularity over the next few seasons.
1970 - The Orioles win their second World Series.
1971 - The Orioles lose to the Pirates in game 7 of the World Series.
1973 - Earl Weaver is voted Manager of the Year.
1979 - The Orioles fall to the Pirates again in game 7 of the World Series.
1982 - Rookie Cal Ripkin Jr. makes a shining entrance to his MLB career by going 3-5 with a homer on opening day.
1983 - Despite multiple injuries, the Orioles charge to the World Series and triumph over the Phillies.
1989 - New uniforms adorn the team.
1991 - Memorial Stadium is retired. The homeplate is transferred to Camden Yards and a new era of Orioles baseball begins.
1992 - Camden Yards offically opens.
1993 - The All-Star Game is held in Baltimore for the first time since 1958.
1996 - After a frustrating season, the Orioles charge ahead to capture the AL Wildcard in the Division Series against Cleveland.
1998 - Ray Miller takes over management duties.
