Black Flag, often considered one of America's first hardcore, punk music bands, originally began in Hermosa Beach, California during 1976. Most of their early work was performed live, so some early band members do not show up on the six studio albums credited to the band. Those albums are titled, Damaged, My War, Family Man, Slip It In, Loose Nut, and In My Head, and all of them were recorded with Henry Rollins as the lead vocalist.
Black Flag's sound evolved over time to include elements of heavy metal and other seemingly counterintuitive elements as jazz and contemporary classical. The group garnered a cult following as their travels took them to venues across the US, Canada and Europe.
