Brief history of the CFL:

The origins of Canadian football can be traced back to a rugby game in England circa 1823. A player by the name of William Webb Ellis picked up the ball and ran, resulting in a dramatic tackle. The game of football developed from there. ShowTimeTickets.com has a great selection of CFL tickets for one of Canada's most exciting live events!

Football was introduced to Canada by the British Army in 1874 when a garrison of soldiers stationed in Montreal arranged to play a series of games against McGill University. Back then, CFL tickets were a lot easier to get! In the years that followed, the game quickly caught on through-out Canada.

Support this grand sport by watching CFL games live and purchasing CFL tickets. The Governor-General of Canada (Lord Albert Henry Earl Grey), donated the Grey Cup in 1909 as a prize trophy for the winners of the annual Senior Amateur Football Championships. The trophy has endured over the years, surviving two world wars, parades, thefts and fires.

By 1958, the Canadian Football League began to take shape. In 1961, competition between the teams was taking place from coast to coast with every team in the league playing against each other at least once per season. The fully interlocking schedule of competition began in 1981.

Today, the league is made up of nine teams: Hamilton Tiger-Cats, Montreal Alouettes, Ottawa Renegades and Toronto Argonauts in the East Division; BC Lions, Calgary Stampeders, Edmonton Eskimos, Saskatchewan Roughriders and Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the Western Division.

Fan attendance and television ratings for the CFL have been on an upswing in recent years. Don't miss your chance to show support for your hometown team. ShowTime Tickets have a wide selection of tickets for all games on the CFL schedule. Don't wait! Order your CFL tickets online now!
