NHL Winter Classic
Approximately 41,000 seats made available for the
2008 NHL Winter Classic, were sold in less than 30 minutes on Tuesday morning. The NHL's first regular-season outdoor game in the US, between the Buffalo Sabres and Pittsburgh Penguins, will be played at Ralph Wilson Stadium, in Buffalo, NY on New Years Day. The NHL will take over the NFL Stadium on Dec. 24, a day after the Buffalo Bills host the New York Giants.
In November 2003, the Edmonton Oilers hosted the Montreal Canadiens in front of 57,167 fans at Edmonton's Commonwealth Stadium during the NHL's "Heritage Classic." Ralph Wilson Stadium capacity exceeds 73,000.
