The National Basketball Association has been holding its annual NBA All Star Game since 1951. The event features the top players in professional American basketball, as voted by fans, competing in an exciting and one of a kind East vs. West exhibition game. The All Star Game aims to honor the league's top players and satisfy loyal NBA fans by showcasing the greatest talent in the league in one exciting contest.
The NBA All Star Game is part of a larger spectacle known as All Star Weekend. All Star Weekend includes the game itself, as well as various exhibition games and competitions played over the span of three days. Among these, are the highly anticipated NBA All Star Celebrity Game, Jam Session and Rookie Challenge.

NBA All Star Game participants are currently chosen in two ways. The first is via fan ballot, with the leading vote getters at each position starting the game, secondly the reserves are chosen by a vote among the head coaches of the squad's particular conference. The coaches who currently lead the team with the most wins in their conference through the Sunday two weeks before the game will coach their respective conferences. The coach cannot coach the team in consecutive seasons. This is the so-called "Riley Rule" so named because because coach Pat Riley's Lakers teams of the 1980's won so often that he coached the Western Conference team nearly every season in the 1980's. In the event that a coach's team repeats as the best record holder the coach from the team with the next best record will serve as All Star coach for that conference.
The NBA All Star Game is a legendary NBA All Star Weekend event that the entire world looks forward to. The all star game gives NBA players a chance to throw away the team concept and go ahead and show off with no remorse. Of course, some stars are more used to already doing that than others. The NBA All Star Game is a great show, and with little defense and plenty of fast breaks, there's plenty of scoring and fun.
